Bitumen history

Many ancient civilizations used bitumen extensively, for example, the Achaemenids used bitumen for waterproofing in Persepolis around the 4th to 5th centuries BC. The modern bitumen industry began in 1712 AD, when natural bitumen rocks were discovered in France, and asphalt was generally produced by pulverizing and heating these rocks.
